This DIY daily microfoliant is awesome. I got a present last year of Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, it was amazing. When I ran out, I couldn’t find anywhere that sells Dermalogica where I live. I decided to see if I could make my own homemade microfoliant. I have been using it now for a month and a half. I wanted to test it out to make sure it was good enough for you. My skin has been really, really good, I’m delighted with it.
It is really easy to make with natural ingredients you have in your kitchen. I know a lot of people don’t have rice flour, so I will show you how to make it yourself down below. All of the ingredients I picked have really great benefits for your skin and are suitable for all skin types. I have sensitive, dehydrated skin and this DIY daily microfoliant is not drying out my skin at all. It is also great for oily skin, just 1 more tbsp of rice flour.

Skin benefits of oats
Oats are amazing for your skin. They are really calming and act as a natural anti-inflammatory for your skin, so if you have itchy skin or acne or rosacea, they will really soothe it. It has vitamin A & D in it. Oats have been used for centuries for their moisturising benefits too. Did I mention that oats have saponins too, these gently cleanse your skin like a mild soap. You see, I told you they were good!
Skin benefits of rice
Rice has been Japan’s best kept beauty secret for years. It contains vitamin A which is great for polishing your skin and vitamin E which is an anti-oxidant and anti- aging. Rice is also full of amino acids, these help your skin produce collagen to make your skin more supple. Also rice water is supposed to be amazing for your skin and hair too. I haven’t tried it but it is on my to do list.
Skin benefits of green tea
We all know green tea is so, so good for us. I only drink herbal tea but I hate the taste of green tea. So it is good to have something else to do with my green tea! Best of all, it is amazing for your skin. It contains anti oxidants that help to neutralise harmful free radicals that accelerate aging. You know what that means, you are going to get younger just by looking at this homemade daily microfoliant!! It is also an anti-inflammatory, bringing down redness and calming puffiness.
What you’ll need to make DIY daily microfoliant
- 3 tbsp Porridge oats or oatmeal (depending on where you are from)
- 1 tbsp Rice flour (to make your own rice flour put 2 tbsp of rice into freezer overnight)
- 1 Green tea bag
How to make DIY daily microfoliant
To make the oat flour just whizz up the oats in a food processor or bullet until you get a fine flour. Then sieve the flour.
I have rice flour at home as I have been experimenting with gluten free baking….so far it’s gone disastrously. If anyone has some good recipes I would love to hear them. Something that doesn’t involve loads of ingredients would be great.
If you need to make rice flour. Put raw rice into freezer overnight, this stops it getting too hot when you grind it. Then whizz the rice in a food processor or bullet until you get a fine flour. This takes longer than the oat flour to make as the grains are harder. Then sieve the flour.
Combine 3 tbsp of oat flour with 1 tbsp of rice flour and the contents of a green tea bag into a jar and mix. And your done.
How to use DIY daily microfoliant
Get your hands very wet and put about a half -teaspoon of the microfoliant into the palm of your hand. Create a paste by rubbing your hands together. Apply to your face using circular motions. Rinse thoroughly when finished.

It works for all skin types, the ingredients are gentle enough for sensitive, dry skin and exfoliating enough for oily skin. Try it, you have nothing to lose! You will have all the ingredients in your press so it won’t cost you a fortune to make.
